An access log is a comprehensive list of all the files that were accessed by the guests of a particular site. Every file that was requested in some way will be listed, so if you have only one page with three embedded pictures, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log will contain a total of six entries - one for each of the six files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log typically shows the file name and path, the date, along with the visitor’s OS, Internet browser and IP address. Oftentimes you may also find the referrer Internet sites that sent the visitors to your website. The data which an access log file features is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a PC and used to prepare reports on the performance of an Internet site, besides the web stats which your hosting server may have produced.

Access Log Manager in Hosting

Our custom Hepsia CP has a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your hosting account and take a look at this section, you shall find a list of all the domains and subdomains that you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to click on a button which will be available next to each domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link together with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your computer and examine it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect right away, so if you no longer need one, you may stop it with just a click from the same section of the Control Panel. You shall still be able to access the already created content by clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it won't take more than several mouse clicks to activate the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature could be activated through the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this can be done independently for every single domain or subdomain you have inside your account. Once you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each one. One click will enable the log generation and a second one will disable it, so you can control this function with great comfort. A Download link in the same section will permit you to save the gathered content as a text file, that you could then use on your laptop or computer. Whether or not the logs are disabled, you shall still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
